There existed on a mountain top in New Jersey a hospital of ill repute. It got so bad that it was more evacuated than it was shut down. Rumors run wild of urban explorers venturing into this evil place only to find forgotten body parts, and other a sundry items in glass jars. Horror films only dream of creating this kind of story, and after much research and seeking out all that I can learn of this little hell on earth, I came to the conclusion that it will best left to those who experienced it, and for my visitors to get the tales from the "Horses" mouth as it were. I would like to share with you my only encounter with "Essex" sanatorium. (No I was never there, to date have yet to be institutionalized, haven't found one to suit my lifestyle yet.) Oddly enough, it came as a result of learning that basically in my back yard was an abandoned mental facility called "Anclote Manors" (My experiences in exploring Anclote Manors are located in this site as well). Outside of a few horror films, I really had no idea what all happened in the less "Reputable" asylums. I found out pretty quick. Needless to say I became somewhat obsessed with haunted asylums, and urban exploring as a result. One of the key historical asylums I would come across was "Essex" in New Jersey, and I began to read all that I could find on it. I came across several photographs, and as I looked at them one by one I could recall being there. I knew the room, and described to my girlfriend where a door would lead, or what was around the corner from one of the pictures that I had seen. Only to verify what I was describing from a photograph uncovered down the line. It was eerie. (again I have never been to this place at all, actually I have never been to New Jersey for that matter) There was a photograph of an auditorium/cafeteria. I described in detail, including a mural (that I would see on a later photo). As I stared at this picture it was almost like it came to life, as I was watching a movie. It was like the scrapbook seen from Stephen Kings "IT". I paled a bit to say the least. My room got a bit chilly, and I was having a truly spooky moment. My girlfriend was at home on her computer and I was sending her the pics and describing them, and she and her daughter were getting freaked out as well. I got up to get something from my closet, and I had a row of DVD's sitting on top of my television very stably (they had been there for a year without once getting knocked off etc) kept in place by two heavy glass jar containers when the jars flew off the TV. one to the left and one to the right and the DVDs flew across the room into my bookcase. I turned around startled and the power got knocked out for about a minute. I no longer needed something from my closet to say the least, but rather needed urgently needed to utilize bathroom equipment. When I got back online about ten minutes later, there were a few ICQ messages from my girlfriend requesting that I not send anymore photos from Essex. Both she and her daughter talked about a demonic looking face that appeared on their monitor, heard something vaguely as they lost power for about a minute. The above is a true "Supernatural" story. I am sure there is an explanation, but haven't found it yet. I don't think the power outage had anything to do with it either, I think that was a happenstance moment. I stopped looking up Essex material however from that point. But that's my one Essex Experience for you. For the rest of the Essex experience? Here is a link "Essex" mountain top sanatorium, that has both a lot of information and photographs, and rather just recreating someone else's project, I would rather have the credit go to those who deserve it. So allow me to guide you to a website of people that are very dedicated to preserving the mysteries surrounding this evil building of history. Essex Links http://www.mountainsanatorium.net/
